Fabric consumption formula for T-shirt:

Fabric consumption formula for the T-shirt is the very basic learning for a garment merchandiser.

To calculate fabric consumption for T-shirt, first need to review the garment measurement (add sewing allowance to it) and fabric GSM for the tee shirt from the technical sheet of the particular style of the tee shirt.

Let’s follow the tee-shirt fabric specifications below according to buyer requirements:

• 100% cotton Single jersey fabric for the body parts (Body + Sleeve), fabric GSM 160
• 95% cotton 5% Lycra 1 × 1 Rib fabric for the neck Rib, GSM 250 
• Overall Fabric Wastage is 15% for Body & neck Rib 

The following tee shirt measurements are provided by the buyer, which we must follow: 

Also Considered below standards during consumption Calculation:

• Lengthwise allowance 10 CM & Width wise allowance  06 CM for tee shirt size L
• Collar Length 60 CM & Collar height 08 for tee shirt size L

Basic Knit tee-shirt consumption formula: 

1) Fabric consumption formula for t-shirts in cm:

• Tee-Shirt fabric consumption for Body & Sleeve :

= 129X 62X 2 X 160  X12 /10000000 KGS/Dozen
=3.02 KGS/Dozen

• Tee-Shirt fabric Consumption for Neck Rib:   

= 60 X 8X 250 X12 /10000000  KGS/Dozen

=0.14 KGS/Dozen 

Let’s add total consumption for Tee shirts (Body+ Sleeve + neck rib)

= 3.02KG+0.14KG

=3.16 KGS/Dozen

Now, Adding fabric wastage of 15%

=3.16 KGS X 15%

=3.63 KGS/Dozen

So, the fabric consumption for a T-shirt (in CM) is 3.63 KGS/DOZEN.

2) Fabric consumption formula for t-shirts in Inch:

• Tee-Shirt fabric consumption for Body & Sleeve :

= 49.95X24.36X2X160X 12 / 1550000 KGS/DOZEN

= 3.02 KGS/DOZEN

• Tee-Shirt fabric consumption for neck Rib:

= (23.62 X 3.15)X 250 X12 / 1550000 KGS/Dozen

= 0.14 KGS/Dozen

Let’s add the total consumption for Tee shorts (Body+ Sleeve + neck rib)

= 3.02KG+0.14KG

=3.16 KGS/Dozen

Now, Adding fabric wastage of 15%

=3.16 KGS X 15%
